Event Reflection Essay
Event Reflection Essay Event Reflection Essay James Lââ¬â¢Erario Event/Lecture Reflection RHA Meeting 11/10/14 Every Monday at 9:55, the Residence Hall Association for Davidson Hall meets in Davidson A on the Busch campus. I live in Davidson Hall A and I am the Davidson Hall A Representative. There are four separate halls on Davidson. To start off the meeting, we form a circle and the Davidson RHA President, Ronack, passes out a Hall Government Meeting Agenda paper slip. After everyone becomes situated and shows up, we start the meeting off with a question of the week. For this week, the question of the week was, ââ¬Å"What would you have done differently over the past week?â⬠We then go around the room to share each of our responses. For me, I would have started planning my essay sooner that I did. After the question of the week, we talked about what went well at our first program that we held, which was The Bonfire Bash that took place in the Davidson field. We all agreed that we had a good DJ, good food, good hot chocolate, and an overall good first event. Then w e discussed what we could have improved upon during the program. Not many had responses but the president emphasized that most people needed to be on time for their shifts and not late, as time management is key. Next, we discussed the Big Pink event that is being held soon. This is a volleyball tournament for breast cancer. Then, we discussed ideas for our next program, and we came to a consensus that we should throw a de-stressing party before finals. My job is to

How to Make a Real Lava Lamp
How to Make a Real Lava Lamp There a recipes all over the internet for easy lava lamps, but they arent the real deal. Thats because true lava lamps are a bit trickier to make. If youre ready for the challenge, heres what you do. Lava Lamp Materials Benzyl alcohol4.8%à saline solution40-60 Watt light bulbGlass containerOil-soluble markerGlass bottleTin canDimmer switchPlywoodTools How to Make the Lava Lamp Break open an oil-soluble marker or pen and place the inked felt into a container of benzyl alcohol. Leaving it in longer will give a darker color, but will also increase the tendency to bleed into the brine.A few minutes is usually a good time to leave the inked felt in the alcohol. A Sharpie bleeds too much into the brine, so choose a different type of marker. The benzyl alcohol, specific gravity 1.043 g/ml, and 4.8% salt water (brine, specific gravity 1.032 g/ml) go into the glass container. A bottle about 10 inches tall is good.Build a base to hold the bottle over the lamp using a tin can and plywood. A dimmer on the light will allow you to control heat. You may wish to place a fan at the top of the bottle to cool the liquid at this location. You will need to experiment to get the best distance between the heat source (light) and the glass container. You want about 150 ml benzyl alcohol and the remainder of the liquid to be brine. Seal the bottle, but allow airspace.Try about 1 inch of air space at the top, to allow for expansion of the fluids. The amount of airspace will affect bubble size. Responsible adult supervision is required! Because the materials may be toxic and there is a flammability hazard, this project is not intended for young or inexperienced investors. Tips for Success Alternatives to benzyl alcohol include cinnamyl alcohol, diethyl phthalate, ethyl salicylate, or nitrobenzene. An oil-based ink may be used instead of the marker. If the benzyl alcohol floats to the top and stays there, add more water. If the alcohol stays at the bottom, add more salt (NaCl).A trace amount of an antioxidant, such as BHA or BHT, may be added to the liquid to add color and increase contrast. Please read theà Material Safety Data Sheetà for benzyl alcohol before performing this procedure. Have fun and be safe!

Critically assess the Prime Minister's powers, Review the role of the Essay
Critically assess the Prime Minister's powers, Review the role of the media in British politics, Is the higher civil ser - Essay Example This work will focus on the powers of the prime minister and other political issues in the United Kingdom, specifically Britain (Adams, 2000). Powers of the prime minister The office of the prime minister in the United Kingdome is not in the constitution meaning there is no reference or a proper legal document that describes all matters that pertains to this office. Due to this, it remained uncommon to majority until the 20th century when the relation between the prime minister, sovereign government, cabinet and the parliament was appreciated. Prime ministerââ¬â¢s powers include: the head of the government, meaning he is the chief officer of the executive and legislative arm of the government or the head of the cabinet. Here the prime minister signs policies debated upon by the legislators into full law. In some nations, the prime minister and the president or head of state must both agree with the policy before it actually becomes a full law. But in the United Kingdom, the Monarc hy is a relief from active role in governmental affairs, hence it is the prime minister to solely sign such policies to full law. ... The second group laments that the prime minister is a senior government official whose wishes or orders ought to be done without further questions (Negrine, 2002). The best solution to this debate is to establish a vetting procedure through which qualified people are vetted before being appointed by the prime minister, further more, the constitution should protect the cabinet members from official exploitations by senior most governmental powers, prime minister being one of them. He organizes business between the executive, civil service and legislators among other important governmental departments. The prime minister represents the Queen or monarchy in both domestic and international affairs. He has the overall control over the cabinet office, which is headed by the secretary of the cabinet, also the head of civil servants. Here the head of civil service must present some issues to the prime minister before the final verdicts are made. Since the head of civil servants is appointed by the prime minister, no aspirant would dare oppose the Prime Minister (Stephen, 2000). Politics is real where some leaders agree and disagree for the sake of good governorship. In my opinion a one sided governorship is more of a dictatorship or the state of psycho fancy. A majority of both appointed and aspiring senior government officials will always support the prime minister despite the infeasibilities. The constitution should be amended to protect the senior officials from such oppressions. A good government is that which cabinet and other senior officials are free to make their personal opinions for the sake of the citizens in general. Role of media in British Politics Britain is of the countries where media sector is at full liberty to

The Power of the U.S. Supreme Court WK6 - Essay Example Consequently, the U.S. courts interpret the United States Congress inspired laws. The courtââ¬â¢s decision includes preventing the police officers from forcibly and illegally conducting illegal search evidences and forcing self-incriminating confessions. The federal courts should accept the concept that the United States Congressââ¬â¢ constitution ensures the police officers should not abuse the citizenââ¬â¢s rights against illegal searches and illegally obtained evidences and confessions. The Miranda law continues to be one of the significant victories for the rights of suspects, a stunning win of the U.S. Supreme Court over Congress. The Courtsââ¬â¢ interpretation and implementation of the constitution includes making decisions on the 2000 United States presidential elections, abortion, affirmation action, as well as elimination of school segregation policies. Furthermore, the Supreme Courtââ¬â¢s Dickerson decision has implications for the federal exclusion rule. The Dickerson case affirmed the constitutionality or legality of the Miranda Doctrine1, enforcing the fourth Amendment. Dickerson filed a complaint stating a police officer DiFilippo attached a GPRS tracking device under his car, without permission, to track the travels of the suspected drug dealer, Dickerson. The rule states that all evidence taken without a search warrant, including the Dickerson drug evidences, illegally violated the suspectââ¬â¢s Miranda rights to self-incrimination (http://w.info.com/) In addition to the above discussion, The United States Congress can modify the laws that do not conflict with constitutional provisions2. The Circuit court incorporates Professor Cassellââ¬â¢s insistence that Miranda Rights reduces conviction of voluntary confessors by stating the United States Congressââ¬â¢ Act 3501 expressly overrides the Miranda Doctrine by focusing on the overall situation, not the Miranda Doctrine (https://wsws.org/). In short, the victimââ¬â¢s voluntary confession,

Assignment - Essay Example As much as layoffs are not a desirable state of the organization, it is always important for the employer to communicate to the employees about it openly instead of letting them get to learn about it through rumors and other means (Business & Legal Reports, Inc., 2009). In the case of the employee who comes for advice amidst such layoff rumors, I would advice them by doing the following: Provide honest and accurate information regarding the layoff to the affected employee. First, it is important to clarify whether the rumor regarding the impending layoff is true or false. Second, I would clarify the reasons and benefits of the payoff to both the employee and the organization. Third, I would help the employee to gain an understanding of the picture of the company following a layoff. Fourth, I would let the employee know how the layoff will take play; whether it is temporary, permanent or in phases. Lastly, I would let the employee know whether there would be any financial resources and support provided incase of the layoff. The Provision of accurate information will enable the employees feel that they are valued, are kept in the loop and that they participate in the decision that affect their lives. Once the employee has attained a clear picture of the situation, I would seek to gather information on how he or she perceives the upcoming layoff. This information is critical because it will enable me to understand how the employee is affected by the layoff rumor, whether this is likely to affect the performance of the ongoing project, issues affecting the employee during the planned layoff and whether the employee has already had job offers elsewhere. After getting the perspective of the employee, I would try to manage his attitudes and behavior about the layoff. I would let the employee know that he or she is very important to the organization although the layoff is inevitable. I would advice the

Sports Drink and Gatorade Essay Example for Free
Sports Drink and Gatorade Essay In the summers ââ¬â¢65, Florida Universityââ¬â¢s physics Lab was swarmed with hushes and gushes over a question on players, heat and performance on field. Coach and physicians were equally puzzled as much concerned over the matter over growing heat stroke illness and degrading performances of peak players in acute heat. While the talks went on for weeks, Dr. Robert Cade, Dr. Dana Shrines, Dr. James Free and Dr. Alejandro de Quesada grilled down the talk to two factors that had affected the performance and provoked the heat illness in Gator Players. * The fluid and Electrolytes that the players lost through sweat were not getting regenerated. * The amount of Carbohydrates that the players used for energy on field was negligently being replenished. Birth of ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ Having zeroed on the problems, the research team of Florida University scientifically fabricated a balanced liquid with precise balance of carbohydrate and electrolytes. The ultimate sport beverage was uniquely produced in the lab to ensure the replacement of lost key components from the body of Gator Players while sweating and exercising. The proud confection drink was called ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢. ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ comes on Field Having the product in Lab was not good enough. The formula was finally introduced to the team; the gators started using the beverage during their practice, exercises and sport on field. The results were ubiquitous. Players were less fatigued, more active and exhibited outlasting win against the heavily favored opponent of the time finishing the ââ¬â¢65 season at 7-4. The performance had just started walking. By the year of 1966, Gator Team finished the season at 9-2 making a historical win of Orange Bowl. Beverage Buzz and Biz The beverage caught wild fire buzz in the field of sports far beyond the boundaries of Florida. People were curious about the beverage as much inquisitive about the invention. University of Richmond and Miami of Ohio were first to place order of batches of ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ for their football team. Post the early adoption phase in the market, followers of the trend just kept coming. The famous saying of the coaches of that time was ââ¬Å"Playing without ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ on your sidelines is like playing with just ten men fieldâ⬠. Todayââ¬â¢s official Sports drink traversed boundaries of nations and labs to conquer the quest for on-field energy builder. Orange to Super by ââ¬Ë69 In the summer of 1969, Coach Ray Graves of the Florida Gators suggested to the Kansas City Chiefs that they use ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ to combat the staggering effects of a blistering Missouri sun during training camp. The Chiefs were so impressed with the ââ¬Å"Gator coachââ¬â¢s aidâ⬠that they kept it on their sidelines throughout the entire seasonâ⬠¦ which concluded with a stunning victory over the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. In the years that followed, more and more NFL teams began placing ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ on the sidelines of their games and practices, and in 1983, ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ became the official sports drink of the NFLââ¬âa title it holds to this day. Science, Sports and Success After two long decades of Dr. Cade and his teamââ¬â¢s much famed work in developing optimum hydration formula- ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ made its way to the ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ Sports Science Institute founded in Barrington, Illinois, to conduct scientific research in the areas of exercise science, hydration, and sport nutrition. By early ââ¬Ë90ââ¬â¢s, the lab expanded to provide advanced testing for athletes and new ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ products and flavors and develop education materials for sports health professionals around the world. ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ Today The official sports drink of the NBA, AVP, and PGA, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, and numerous other elite and professional organizations and teams, ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ is not a beverage is it! The result of their research was the development of GIDS, the ââ¬ËGatoradeââ¬â¢ In-Car Drinking System, which is now considered an essential piece of racing equipment. Drink up the Challenge! The Definition of Cyberpunk Essay -- Science Fiction Literary Genre Es
The Definition of Cyberpunk In Bruce Sterling's article, "Cyberpunk in the Nineties," he explained how public opinion had defined himself, Rucker, Shiner, Shirley, and Gibson as the cyberpunk "gurus" in the 1980's. Because of being labeled cyberpunk "gurus," the public had come to understand the definition of cyberpunk as "anything that cyberpunks write." To break this definition of cyberpunk established by popular public opinion, I will pursue giving cyberpunk a more definite definition. After reading numerous cyberpunk fiction stories, I noticed reoccurring themes in these stories. I believe these themes can form a criteria under which a story can be defined as cyberpunk. These criteria are total enhancement and integration of everyday life by technology, some degree of pleasure (by the author) in explaining this technology, cyber-lingo, and some degree of global connectiveness. The first criterion or theme, total enhancement and integration of everyday life by technology is probably the most obvious and vital in order for a story to be deemed cyberpunk. Why is it the most obvious and most vital? It is the most obvious because cyberpunk writers use the "everyday," that is, objects, concepts, or places we causally shrug off as normal, and integrate/enhance the normal with technology. A good example can be found in John Shirley's "Freezone." Upon entering the "Semiconductor" the scene is unusual but appears to be a everyday freak club. An occasional flare dots the audience. They have multi-colored hair that is styled straight up. In reaction to the flares and much more frequent than the flares are minimonos; they have ultra-straight hair falling down past their shoulders and uniform monochrome colored clothes. Anyway, the ... ...d projecting its evolution in the future, he is not intimidated, therefore he is able to enjoy himself in explaining this concept or technology. Furthermore, because the author is reflecting off of a society so obsessed with detail, he is obligated to present his story is such a detailed fashion. Basically, I think, that if cyberpunk fiction fulfills its purpose then the four criteria will fall naturally into place and therefore these four criteria build the backbone of the definition of cyberpunk.
